Lake Izabal<br \/>\nis connected with the Caribbean Sea via the Dulce River and El Golfete lake. The fort<br \/>\nwas strategically situated at the narrowest point on the river, and existed to protect the<br \/>\narea from English pirate attacks. During one of those attacks (in 1686), pirate set afire<br \/>\nthe castle\u2019s palm-leaf roofs, which destroyed the castle then. It was later rebuilt.<br \/>\nAdmission: Q25.
