It<br \/>\nis located in the northeastern portion of the Pet\u00e9n Basin region, in the modern-day<br \/>\nGuatemalan department of Pet\u00e9n. Nakum boasts the second highest number of<br \/>\nrestored buildings in the country after Tikal. Archaeologists have been excavating the<br \/>\nsite year-round for more than fourteen years.
