The lake is in a magical,<br \/>\nmystical setting, surrounded by volcanoes and green-clad mountains. Atitl\u00e1n has a<br \/>\nsurface area of over 50 square miles and is the deepest lake in Central America.<br \/>\nMany guidebooks treat Lake Atitlan as one destination, but dozens of towns and<br \/>\nvillages are within that area (each one with its own unique characteristics and<br \/>\nattractions. Atitl\u00e1n deserves plenty of attention. The area offers more sights and<br \/>\nexperiences than any other part of Guatemala.<\/p>\n<p>The main town is Panajachel, the tourist hub of the region.
